My families have been mentioning about immigration recently. It’s not that we don’t love the country anymore. It’s the fear that one day we might end up claiming a PRC passport and being forced to change our identity from Taiwanese to Chinese.
Learning Mayor Ma’s proposal of peace agreement with China in an interview conducted by ABC is still very disturbing, though there’s still nothing new come up this time. The interview was conducted by ABC reporter on May 14, 2006.
"I said we have to work out a modus vivendi to be effective during the duration of the peace accord and then we should go from there, to see what kind of arrangement that would, on one hand, recognise one China. On the other hand, to let Taiwan have the international space it deserves. "
That’s Mayor Ma’s expectation from the peace agreement. However, exactly how does it work to RECOGNIZE one China policy and Taiwan’s international space at the same time? He didn’t say.
Exactly what difference and impact is it going to make to Taiwanese sovereignty and economy? He misses out.
Exactly what kind of concession Taiwanese people have to make under that "PEACE AGREEMENT"? He’s very optimistic.
And I couldn’t expect less if one day Mayor Ma becomes President Ma.
